Vasking av stoffer / Washing of fabrics

I have to admit that I am the impatient kind of sewer, who will like to start the sewing right away - and that may imply to skip the washing of the fabrics from time to time, hoping that it will not matter in the end :o) But when I got all the beautiful Kaffe-fabrics, ranging from light to dark, and in addition using a beige background,  I didnt dare not to. So I started the handwashing and it turned out not to be in vain! But what I didnt think of was the shrinking, my precut 5"-squares were suddenly NOT 5" anymore. And the shrinking was quite uneven. So nothing else to do but to cut to make it right, and now I have 4,5" squares in stead! But now - a little later than expected - Im ready to cut the strips and start sewing. Hoping to get something done today.

I rarely pre-wash my fabrics either but only with red, & color's like purple batiks and glad I do as I have had bleeding. I have not had shrinkage though.
I will try to start my star crazy quilt this week.

I am so glad to see that the fabrics made it there safe and sound. They look wonderful! Sorry to hear about the shrinkage. Usually with pre-cuts I don't prewash. Especially if you want to keep it that size. Yardage I usually always prewash. But it seems that you have made the best of the shrinkage and I am looking forward to seeing what you will be making.
