Washed and dried

In the last post I was searching for some experience regarding drying a quilt in a dryer. And Im so thankful for all the great advices, both as comments and in mails. So during this last week I did finish the quilt and was ready to try drying it! I was quite excited, as I had never done before - and this was a gift... And yes - I do agree - its stupid to experiment on a gift, I know.... But I did it anyway.

This is the quilt before washing it

As you can see its quite plain without wrinkles. The thing with this quilt is that the top and batting is cotton, which is organic and the backing is fleece which is synthetic. So I was a bit worried that the cotton would shrink too much compared to the fleece. I washed it in 40 gr C and it looked fine. Then I put it in the dryer for about 30 min and had a look. Still no problem! It was not quite dry, so I put it in for another 30 min. Then it was completly dry and it looked just fantastic :o))

It has a bit more wrinkles, especially on the fleece on the back. You cant see it very clearly on the picture, but its there. Not too much, just a little. I would say its just the way it should be :o)

I like the colours!

And, of course, I have to show a picture of it when its folded - it looks so nice :o)

And now it is on its way to Oslo to its new owner :o)

I was going to do the rest of the blocks... But the urge to quilt one of my tops came over me! And since I have to finish it within less than two weeks, I couldn't ignore it :o)

I quilted with straight lines along the stripes, simple but nice.

I chose fleece for the back. It was easier to quilt than I thought, I thought maybe it would be thick to sew. But I had no problem :o)

I also made the binding, so its all ready to finish the quilt tomorrow.

Because Im giving it away to a little babygirl, I want to wash it. And put it in the dryer, because I finally got one :o) What are you experience with quilts in the dryer - anything I need to be aware of??

How happy can a girl be......

I'll tell you - unbelievably happy if she gets to sew from time to time....

And so was I today! It has been a while since I had the time to sit down and enjoy my sewing room. I have fallen behind on the two quilt alongs that I do, and my goal is to minimize the gap as good as I can. So I sat down today to do some of the blocks, 4 to go on one of the QA's and 2 on the other. To chose what fabric to use is the hardest part I think and that takes some time. So I only got to finish these two blocks today, hopefully more tomorrow :o)

No, I havent forgotten about you, and I certainly hope you havent forgotten me... Its just that December has been really really busy, so I havent been able to make much - or blog about the things I didnt make :o) I have some days off after tomorrow and will have a loong new year's weekend :o) And then I plan to catch up on the two BOM's that I joined and doing some quilting.

But today I was in the shop, enjoying myself. And I took some pictures that I want to show you, proud as I am :o) I used my phone, so I see its not the best quality....

when you are having fun :o) I am almost two months into my new dream world ( that is my new job) and I can tell you - I love it, love it, love it !! Its busy and lots to do, but I come home smiling every night, having had yet another great day :o) But as strange as it may seem - working in a store filled with fabrics, notions and sewing machines, tons of inspiration every day, I get less time for sewing..... So, today I decided I wanted to make room for some sewing - I wanted to try a new pattern.

And Im quite pleased with it. A lucky girl will get this for x-mas - can you believe its only 2 weeks away! I will have to make a few more.

Silk roses

I have been making roses, beautiful roses :o) As I told you, last monday I learnt how to do it, and its actually not too hard.

I used 7 mm silk ribbon, you can use all sizes to vary the size of the rose. To make more life to the rose, the ribbon was variegated. You can choose not to use this, but I like the effect. You may see it easier on this picture. Its fun, and you can make almost any kind of flower - when you have been practising a while... :o)

Christmas is getting closer and closer, almost too fast.... Soon, very soon I have too start buying little presents for the girls for their calender - december is only a few days away :o/ We will soon have a baking workshop at my sisters house, have to start thinking of making the x-mas cards, next weekend we will make our traditional gingerbread house, and not to forget getting all the presents ready. Fortunately this is all things that I love doing :o) The clue is NOT to make a stress out of it - and usually Im good at that !! I have at least started making one present....

Now Im ready for a new, exciting week - Im having so much fun in the shop with the girls :o) Imagine a table filled with lots and lots of 'yet to come' - fabrics, getting to choose your favorites and order it for the shop - couldn't be better, a dream come through :o) Have a look at our web site, www.quiltekroken.no. On a rainy Sunday....

its nice to be cheered up by lots of beautiful fabrics and sewing along :o) Thats how my day has been - wonderful!!
And tomorrow will be good aswell. After an exciting day at work ( I've just changed my occupation and are the proud co-owner of a quiltshop in Bergen, Norway!!) I will attend a class learning how to make roses of silk-ribbon. We have to be prepared and make something to practise on. I want to make a makeup-purse and have made this. I will make the roses along the leaves in the middle.

And, of course, I have made some stars....... I believe I will show you my stars until you cant take anymore :o) Please bear with me !! Here we go.......

Last progress

Some days ago we got the 3rd block of the Fat Quarter Star QA. It was a lovely start block using several fabrics. Im using Soul Blossoms by Amy Butler, which is lots of colors and big prints. Too show them off and not make too busy block I will have to make my own little twist from time to time. And with this block I used only 2 prints (and the background) and Im very happy with the result.

The star table topper have been fun making, and I think I will be using the stars another time aswell. Thanks for all the advice you gave regarding the sashing. I decided to go for the brown, I thought it gave more life to the top.

A knitted finish :o)

Wow - its been a long time since I have finished a sweater. But today I did .......

Its a birthday present for a little charming boy,

soon to be four years :o) Hope he and his mom will be satisfied !

Its used Fabel, a wool yarn from Garnstudio.

I have also made all of the stars for the runner Im about to make. Originally I was making a wallhanging with 4 stars, but Ive changed my mind, Im making a tablerunner instead. For me its more useful.

But Im not sure what to use in the sashing, a dark beige or a dark brown.

Maybe you can help me??

A new star is born......

Its time to show you the next star in the Fat Quarter QA :o) I have been looking at it, thinking and looking again, because Im not sure if I like it or not. Is it too much? I think I will make one more with just two fabrics, just too see if I like that more.

I've started a class in my LQS, making a Star Block Quilt. I havent decided how big I want to make it yet, only I will not make a big quilt this time.

I love the smooth colours and fun print, its designed by Lynette Anderson.

A class with André Wallenborg and new BOM's

Last weekend I was taking a class with André Wallenborg, making a nice looking bag. For you who may wonder - who is this???, he is a norwegian designer making clothes but mostly he designs and makes his own bags. He has even made clothes and bags for the norwegian royal family, not bad!!!

It is not a very posh kind of bag, but it is the small details that is the clue :o)

This pocket is a 3 in 1 pocket, one in the back and two behind the zipper. Very smart!

There is a zippered pocket inside aswell, in two levels. One level with pockets for the mobile and cards and one big pocket.

And on the other side a pocket with folds and rubberbands on the top.

Not a single seam are visible, everything is hidden, both on the outside and inside - I love it! And so does my daughter it seems, she asked me to make one for her aswell :o) So I will try to remember all the tricks we learnt.....

Everybody who have been following me for a while knows that I love joining quilt alongs and BOM's :o) And as you can see on my sidebar I have recently joined two more. One is called Fat Quarter Stars Quilt Along at Moose on the Porch Quilts. I bought Soul Blossoms by Amy Butler some time ago, and I will be using it with white as background.

The other one is hosted by Jackie at Canton Village Quilt Works and is called Bloggers BOM, find all the info here. For this I will be using some of my Kaffe Fassett fabrics, in red/pink and blue/green and maybe some purple (just because I love it!!).

Looking at my stash I suddenly realised that I need some more in the blue/green colourway - and some background. Hmmm, so off I go to shop at Jackie's :o)

How do you sew your hexies?

Im a newbie when it comes to hexies, but it so much fun! I read somewhere that there are different ways of sewing them together.

Like this, laying them flat together. If you do like this you should avoid stitches to be seen in the front. But I think its difficult sewing like this, takes longer and the front gets sometimes wrinkles and a bit loose.

Or like this, right sides together and sew along. Much more easy and faster. If I look closely I may be able to see some of the stitches on the front, but not much.

Which of the two do you prefer?

Look at this lovely stack of precut hexies. Bought from Possum Blossom, which sells precuts in different shapes. This is Etchings from Moda.

One finished top! I will have to buy some flannel for the back to make it soft and warm.

Finally my Star Crazy quilt has landed on its proper place! It has been a while since it was quilted, but I havent binded it.

For some reason it has been 'forgotten', but this weekend I showed it to some friends and it was a bit embarrassing that it was not finished. Well, at least thats what my dearest thought :o) He said to me - Merete, you HAVE to finish it now!! And I did agree, so on Sunday it was done. Its actually quite nice work, especially the handstiching on the back!

I have also been working on my new project, it comes together quite easy.

I havent made up my mind about the size yet. I think I will have to make some more blocks and assemble them to see how it looks. It isnt ment to be too big.

I use 2 jelly rolls, one white and one 'Little Apples' from Moda.

Have a wonderful week! We were waiting for the remains of the tropic storm 'Katia', and expected heavy winds and rain, but it didnt turn out so bad. We were lucky!

Small purses and a new project

This weekend the weather was really really bad, pouring down. It practically shouted out - its time for some sewing!!! I have seen some purses that I wanted to make some time ago, but never got around to do it. Well, now was the time :o)

I tried some of the borders on my sewing machine, practised my freemotionquilting. Im not very good yet, but Im getting there. A lot better than this time last year......

The purses were fun to make and went together quite fast. But I think it was a bit difficult getting the ends to look good. Maybe it will be easier when I've made a few more of them :o)

As usual Im not very patient when it comes to start a new project. I know-I know, should have finished the hexagon tablerunner first and not to mention all the quilting I should have done.... But the hexies are done by hand, so thats different - and i havent got enough batting for all the tops, and that a good excuse aswell - so I started my new quilt top :o) And here are lots of strips from 2 jelly rolls.

I just have to show you one of the birthdaypresents I got from one of the girls. She has made it all by herself in secret in my room. She knows how to melt a mothers heart :o) Even if the card stated I had to do the binding myself.....

It was difficult to get a decent photo because of the colours, but I think you get the essence of it :o)

Magic loop and a magic weekend

One of the things I have never liked too much about knitting is the sleeves of a sweater and using 5 needles. So I was soooo happy this summer when I learnt the magic loop! Imagine never have to use those needles again, I can knit sleeves, mittens, socks and whatever with a circular needle - what a joy :o)) And its so easy!

My birthday was last week, and one of the things I got was this.

Its a set of knitting needles, all sizes from 3,5mm - 10mm, and cords in 4 different lengths. And I can combine them as I need. Goodbye too the mess of needles in all sizes, never knowing which ones I have and always buying new ones because Im not sure if I have that size or if its lost somewhere..... Everything I need is in this little bag - genius!!!

My birthday were celebrated at Slåtterøy lighthouse, a beautiful little island in the far west of the norwegian coast, overlooking the North Sea.

We got a guided tour in the lighthouse, which is from the 1850's. This picture is taken from the top, looking down at the house we stayed in. I am very facinated by the sea and the forces of nature, so I wished for strong winds when we were there. On sunday it was a strong breeze and this is what it does to the sea - enjoy! Imagine how it would be during one of the winterstorms!

We had a great time!

Hexies!!

Yes, at last Im trying to make some hexagons! And before Ive even started properly - its a lot of fun :o))

I bought a pack of 1,5" hexagons and started cutting. I had also bought a gluepen to use for the corners in stead of sewing as I read it was easier.

And yes, it was easy. But I didnt feel comfortable that it would stick through the process. So I started sewing, and I think I will do that from now on. It was fairly quick aswell.

One thing I realised aswell is that 1/4" for the back is not enough (at least I think so.... :o)), so I started cutting them a bit larger and the sewing was easier.

So now Ive started to sew the flowers together, its so exciting...... And Im very curious if I have stitched the paper to the fabric, I tried hard not to :o)

Summer is not over yet :o)

Hello from sunny Bergen :o) We have had some wonderful days of summer this week, and we know we have to enjoy it while it lasts! Next week will be not so good, they say.... But maybe I can finally have some time in my sewing room again :o) Havent been sewing much, but I have got some new fabrics and yarn - of course..... ;o)

This will be for x-mas. I saw a quiltalong at 'ps i quilt' called 'synchronised squares', I like it a lot and its quite easy to make. You can have a look here. I cant decide whether to use red or white as background, what do you think? At the moment I think I prefer the red, but I have to see.

I also bought some Kaffe Fassett on sale. I really have to make something soon with my gorgeous collection, but I have a hard time cutting in it because I love so much.... I dont know if that is good or bad :o/

I have at least been knitting a little bit during my holidays, not much - but more than halfway on the sweater I was planning to finish :o)

I am so lucky I have a niece who has learnt to spin yarn and has its own spinning wheel. She has made me some yarm and I have more to come... Isnt it gorgeous, its merinowool/bamboo/silk, love the colors! We have collected Cora's coat from early summer when she lost it, and Marte will try to make yarn - exciting!

Visiting Summerland.....

For the last two weeks we have been sailing in the Ionian Islands, a wonderful area on the westcoast of Greece.

Lazy, wonderful, sunny days

reading an exciting book,

watching the incredible stars in the night - who could know there were so many...

finding the most beautiful, white, clean beaches and have them all by ourselves - unbelievable

bathing in the bluest water, so clear you can see the bottom 20 m below

On our way back we had time to visit Acropolis in Athens - very impressive

Not much quilting, sewing, stitching or knitting done - but who cares :o)

Finished a X-mas present.....

from last X-mas :o) I only managed to finish the top in time for x-mas, wrapped it in nice x-mas paper and gave it away with a little note saying I had to get it back for quilting.

But then, my elbow started hurting :o/ I waited and waited, hoping it would be better so I could quilt the top. Its quilt big, so it would be heavy working with it.

I had it all in my head, how I should quilt it. But at last I had to face the fact that the elbow would take some time to heal. So I sent the top to a quilter who did the job for me. Got it back a couple of days ago. The quilter (Kaktus Quilts in Tananger) did a terrific job, quilting and binding it in under a week - amazing!!

It turned out a bit different than in my mind, but Im very pleased with it. And Im sure the new 'owners' will be aswell. Its on its way to them :o)

Some time ago I got a wallhanging from mamacjt (Carol), really cute. My 'little' one Oda (which is 13 and not so little anymore...) was very fascinated and wanted to try to applicate. I was only allowed to show her the techniques, she locked the door to my sewing room when she was working with it :o) Of course, I was very curious, and two days ago she was finished.

Im super-impressed! And she did it all by herself, the cutting, ironing, sewing - all of it!

I've always wanted.....

a tablecloth for my outsidetables in the summer - it looks so nice and cosy.

I had a charmpack with Whimsy, and it is so cute and have lots of summer in it. Yesterday was a rainy day, and I started sewing. It was really quick, so I finished, layered it - hoping it would rain today aswell...

And it did (at least part of the day) - yeahhhh ....... :o/ So I started to freemotionquilt 'stars' in the squares. And when I finished I realised it had a nice effect looking like a flower in the middle!

So now one of the tables has got a cloth. Well, almost - I have to bind it, haven't decided what to use for binding yet. I have found a light green with beige polka dots, thats my hottest tip at the moment :o)

And just as our footballteam (Brann) scores and leads the sun decided to come so I could take some nice pictures outside :o)

OMG - how time flies!!!!

Wow, it has been 3 weeks today since my last post - way too long.... But thats the way it is (and should be...) during summertime, lots of other things taking my time and attention. First of all - at last its time for sailing again, lying in the sun doing nothing but watch whatever's passing by.

Taking a swim in the way too cold sea (11 gr C)... Well at least for me, I was the one holding the towels ready :o)

Having quality time with the family, relaxing in the arms of a loved one :o)

While on the boat I have started handquilting Bella Parade, and I really like how it turns out. It will get some wrinkles I think but I dont mind. Maybe they disappear when I wash it after its finished. As Im not a very experienced handquilter, my stitches are not even all over, but they will be better in time. I am using Pearl Cotton DMC thread.

I have made a load of toiletpurses/make-up purses etc for a friend of mine. I didnt take pictures of them all, but here are some

This one is made of leftovers from Bella Parade, and I practiced my swirlquilting - could have been better.... :o)

To be kind to my elbow I try to vary between sewing and knitting, and Im knitting a jacket for myself using Alpaca and a sweater (Fabel) for a sweet little boy I know :o)

I guess, for some reason, Im trying to convince you all that even if I havent been blogging, I have been doing something :o) Well, well - anyway Im happy its summer!

Bella Parade top finished

I have finished the Bella Parade top, and its gorgeous! I love the colours and working with solids. Its really cool, looks so clean and fresh.

This will be my first attempt to handquilt. I will be using embroidery yarn in different colours. Waiting for the instructions :o)

Im lousy with titles, I know - I try my best but sometimes its just not possible to come up with something interesting and catching. Like today, but heres the post all the same - title or not :o)

I have finished the center of the Bella Parade Quilt. This is a fun miniquilt to make and its quite fast, but now I have to wait for the next steps next week. This is 12" x 12".

I have also made the last blocks of my P2 Modern Solids Quilt. So next is the sashing and then the top is finished.

This is how the blocks looks together on my designwall. Yeah, looks nice :o)

Bella Parade

I have started cutting all the pieces for this miniquilt, thats this weeks task - tiny pieces.. This is for the log cabins, the square in the middle is 1".

We are piecing the center next week, but I couldn't help it - I had to do the log cabins, the colours looked so yummi :o) So I did, and here they are, 3" each.

Just to give you the hint of the size...

As you probably understand, I have never pieced such small log cabins before :o)

One of my favourite flowers are peonies, the variety, the big flowers, the smell, the colours - they are absolutely gorgeous! I have several in my garden, but its too early for them yet, even if we have wonderful weather with almost 25 C :o) So some days ago I found these beauties in the shop - enjoy!

A couple of weeks since my giveaway-post already. And it has been a couple of wonderful weeks, with lots and lots of sun and almost 20 C! And thats not usual in April here in Norway, it has been the warmest in over 100 years! Even Cora loves the smell of flowers :o)

Makings from Easter

Even though my elbow doesn't allow me to quilt the big tops I've lying around giving me a hard time because I really want to finish them, I had to make something during Easter. So I found a pattern for a tablerunner I have wanted to make for a long time. Originally it was made as a Christmas runner, but I had some greens that I wanted to use.

( As you can see I had to take a break before I got to the binding...)

Its easy to make, but one of the reasons I wanted to do it was because of the quilting. Its just straight lines, but I like the effect the pattern gives.

You can see it even better on the back.

I also made the two next blocks in the Modern Solids QAL. Only four more blocks to go, so this will be a quick one.....

I've got myself a designwall :o) And its time for a giveaway

I actually did it - I made myself a big designwall in my new room!! I bought 2 x 2m felt ( 90 cm wide), put them beside eachother and ended up with a designwall thats approx 2 x 2 m. And its great :o)

And look whats on it - its my postage stamp quilt! I made all the blocks and they are ready to be assembled. Think I may do it today. Its one row less than its supposed to be. I think its big enough when its 6 x 7, instead of 6 x 8. And I also get leftover-blocks so I can make a nice tablecloth for the table on the terrace. Some more pictures for you....

I have moved into my sewing room :o)

During the last weekend I managed to move all of my stuff from our bedroom two floors down to my precious new sewing room. It was a lot more than I imagined, no wonder our bedroom was a mess.... :o)

I sorted all my fabrics in colours and size (yardage/ approx FQ's / scraps). I know what I have doesn't seem much compared to some of you, but I think I have lots and lots of wonderful fabrics and I love just looking at it. I also kept some FQ's, charms, layer cakes and jellyrolls, because I wanted to keep the fabric lines together.

This is my cutting and sewing table. The tables are from IKEA and I like them a lot because I can adjust the height. And of course - my new iron, love it, its very good! I need to put something on the wall to make it a bit more lively. I have received the quilt from mamacjt yesterday, and that will definitely hang there! Its lovely :o) And maybe a message board with some pictures and small quilts? On the opposite wall Im planning to buy a flannelsheet or two to use as a designwall. Anyone have any tips and tricks?

The first blocks of Modern Solid QA had the honor of being the first to be sewn in my new room :o) Ive never tried making a quilt from just solids - exciting and I like so far!

You may have noticed that Im writing just in english, I have decided to do this in the future. I think it will be easier to read, to write and the posts will not be a mile long...... So I hope thats ok for everyone and you can still comment in norwegian.... :o)

Ny quilt along og en strikkeveske/ New Quilt Along and a knittingbag

Jeg hadde egentlig bestemt meg for at jeg skulle ikke være med på flere QA akkurat nå. Men så kom jeg over denne da... Og den så litt spennende ut, bare ensfargete stoff. Det er Charlie og Ryan ( ja - to menn, som jo også er litt uvanlig men artig :o)) som arrangerer. Se link til høyre for mer info.

I had decided not to participate in more QA at the moment. But that was before I saw this... I looks exciting, its only solids and I'd like to try that. Its Charlie and Ryan (yes - two men, which is also a bit unusual but fun :o)) who is hosting this. For more info use the link on the right.

Visste noenlunde hvilke farger jeg ville ha, men hadde problemer med å velge mellom 2 farger. Bestemte meg for den siste kombinasjonen. Så imorgen skal jeg sy den første blokken.

I knew which kind of colours I wanted, but I had difficulties choosing between two of the colours. At last I decided to go for the last combination. So tomorrow I will make the first block.

Jeg har lenge hatt lyst å prøve å sy en strikkeveske. Etter at Quiltefia la ut mønster på Tåsen Quiltelags blogg, har jeg endelig gjort det.

For a long time I have wanted to try to make a knittingbag. After Quiltefia posted a pattern, I finally did.

Jeg gjorde det litt annerledes med glidelåsen slik at den ble skjult inni vesken.

I changed a bit, so that the zipper got hidden inside the bag.

Og tenk, idag blir syrommet mitt ferdig!!! Kun å henge opp en lampe, så er det bare å flytte inn i et helt tomt rom som skal fylles med stoff og tråder og sybord og kuttebord og nytt strykejern og bøker og blader - ååååå hvilken glede :o))

En ting som skal få æresplassen over sybordet mitt er en liten quilt (20" x 16") som jeg har kjøpt av mamacjt ( hun har laget den til meg), den er på vei til meg!! Er den ikke supersøt? Har dere ikke vært på bloggen hennes, så anbefaler jeg sterkt et besøk - hun er utrolig kreativ og flink. Jeg elsker alt hun lager!!

This is going to have the place of honor at the wall over my sewing table. Mamacjt made it for me ( I bought it) and now its on its way to me!! Isnt it cute? If you havent visited her blog, I strongly recommend it - she is incredible creative and makes the most wonderful things. I love her work!!

Så er vi hjemme igjen, eller det har vi egentlig vært noen dager :o) Jeg har vært endel ganger i Praha, men det har vært jobbreiser, og selvom jeg har sett endel av byen så blir det ikke på samme måte som når jeg nå var BARE turist. Det er en flott by! Skal vise dere noen bilder senere, men først....

At home at last, or actually we have been home a couple of days already :o) I have been in Prague some times and I have seen a lot of the famous places, but that have been businesstrips. Being there as a tourist was another experience. Its a wonderful town, and I will show you some pictures, but first....

For det meste quilte- og strikkeblogger, men også litt interiør./ Mostly quilting- and knittingblogs, but also som interiordecorators.

Er veldig glad i rødt/orange/rosa, men liker stort sett det meste. Glad i klare farger./ Love reds/oranges/pinks, but likes most colours. Very fond of bright colours.

Har akkurat sett en serie som heter Stormenes tid av Ken Follett, som handler om middelalderen i England, katedralbygging, maktkamp - veldig bra! / Ive just seen a dvd-series called Pillars of the earth by Ken Follet. They are about the middleage in England, building of a cathedral, and who is going to reign the country - very interesting!

5. Hvilke land vil du besøke og hvorfor? / Which country would you like to visit and why?

Blant mange land, vil jeg til Italia igjen, elsker maten, vinen, folket, språket.... :o) / Amongst many countries, I would like to visit Italy again, love the food, the wine, the people, the language... :o)

Vårlige fornemmelser / Feeling of spring

Syr, stryker og kutter, syr, stryker og kutter..... :o) Selvom det ikke akkurat er det lystigste arbeidet, så synes jeg det har gått fort. Er ferdig med å sy stripesettene, har også strøket alle, og har begynt å kutte.

Sewing, ironing and cutting, sewing ironing and cutting - and again..... :o) Even if it is not the most enjoyable I do, I think Im making good progress. The sewing is done, Ive ironed all sets and have started cutting.

Da jeg kom hjem fra turen med Cora igår, tuslet jeg litt rundt i hagen og så om det hadde skjedd noe i bedene under snøen. Og sannelig, det var ikke lite! Det er like deilig å se dette hvert år :o)

After my walk with Cora yesterday I took a look in my garden for some signs of spring. And, as always it has been happening a lot under the snow. I love this time of year :o)

Ny duk og nytt prosjekt/ A tablecloth and a new project

Har lenge hatt lyst å lage en duk i stjernemønster, og nå har jeg endelig fått gjort det. Vet ikke om jeg er helt fornøyd, synes kanskje den er litt rotete?? men den blir sikkert finere når jeg får quiltet og sydd på lukkekant. Det er nydelige stoff, Antique Fair fra Moda.

I have wanted for a long time to make a tablecloth with stars, and finally I did it! I dont know if Im pleased with it, maybe its a bit messy?? But I think it will be alright when I have quilted it. The fabrics are lovely, Antique Fair from Moda.

Nå ligger noe helt annet klart og venter :o) For en stund siden hadde p.s. i quilt en quilt along hvor de laget en postage stamp quilt, som består av 2,5" kvadrater. Denne synes jeg var fin, men hadde annet på gang da så jeg kunne ikke være med. Men nå skal jeg sette igang. Hvit sammen med disse flotte stoffene, Fresh Flowers fra Moda - det blir en frisk sommerquilt til å ha på seilbåten :o)

Now I have something completely different waiting:o) A while ago p.s. i quilt had a quiltalong making a postage stamp quilt. I loved it, but didnt have time to make it. But now Im on it. White together with these happy colours, Fresh Flowers from Moda, will make a fresh summersquilt to bring with us on our sailingboat :o)

Kurs i frihåndsquilting / Practice my freemotionquilting

De siste ukene har jeg gått på kurs i frihåndsquilting hos Mona (Quiltekroken). Selvom jeg har prøvd å lære meg litt på egen hånd, er det rart med det - man lærer mye mer når en kan få hjelp, løsninger, lure triks og masse mer :o) Og ikke minst, veldig koselig selskap mens kunnskapen siger inn! For å trene skulle vi lage et par brikker. Jeg laget 4 stk siden vi er fire rundt bordet :o). Lukkekanten er ikke på for jeg kan ikke helt bestemme meg for om alle 4 skal få brun, eller om det skal bli 2 m brun og 2 m blå - noen meninger om det??? De er sydd i Pure fra Moda, som er en nydelig serie.

The last couple of weeks I have taken a course in freemotiomquilting. Even if I tried to be selftaught, I have to admit - I learn a lot more when I can get help when I need it, solutions to problems, tips and tricks etc etc :o) And of course the good company while you learn. To practice we were making a couple of placemats. I made 4 since we are 4 around the table :o) I havent put on the binding simply because I cannot decide if all 4 is having brown binding or 2 with blue and 2 with brown - what do you say, any suggestions??? I have used Pure from Moda - love it!!!

Her er et bilde av quiltingen, og jeg er ganske fornøyd :o) I skillet mellom ramme og bakgrunn lærte jeg en teknikk som gir en spesiell effekt. Jeg sydde små sirkler tett i tett hele veien, kan velge om du vil sy 1 eller 2 ganger. Jeg sydde 2, frem og tilbake. Det ble veldig fint, anbefaler å prøve! Håper dere kan se det bedre hvis dere forstørrer bildet.

This is a close up of the quilting, and Im pretty satisfied :o) Keep in mind Im a newbie!!! Between the frame and the background I tried something new. Small loops or swirls all the way, and then you can choose to go back again if you want. I did and it turned out pretty nice! Hope you can get an impression if you enlarge the picture.

Jeg har også fått sydd den siste blokken i Layer Cake QA, synes den var en av de fineste hittil. Har forresten bestemt meg for at jeg skal stoppe med 9 blokker. Grunnen til det er enkelt og greit at jeg er ganske sikker på at jeg ikke har nok stoff igjen. Og det blir vanskeligere og vanskeligere å sette sammen fine blokker - synes jeg da... Så det blir 2 fine topper med ni blokker - er kjempefornøyd med det jeg :o)

I have made the last block from the Layer Cake QA, and I its one of my favourites so far. I have decided that I will only make 9 of the blocks. The reason is simply that I dont think I have enough fabrics left in my layer cakes for the rest of the blocks. And its getting more and more difficult to put together nice blocks. So I will have two pretty quilts with 9 blocks - and Im satisfied :o)

Har hatt en herlig uke på Geilo, med masse sol og fint vær :o) Noen dager med sterkt vind, med det gav seg heldigvis før vi skulle kjøre hjem så fjellovergangene var åpen.

We have had a wonderful week at the mountain with lots of sun :o) Some days with strong winds, but luckily it was over before we were heading home and the roads were open.

Begynte på en liten avskjedsgave til en på jobben før vi reiste, men ble ikke ferdig. Blitt ferdig idag, en koppematte,

I started a little farewell-present for a girl at work who is leaving us for another dept, but I didnt have the time to finish it. Today it was ready, a mugrug,

og en toalettveske - håper hun blir fornøyd :o)

og den er ferdig quiltet! Den er nydelig og jeg er kjempefornøyd med arbeidet til Merete. Har ikke fått lukkekant på enda, det må vente en stund. Har en vond albu, så jeg kan ikke jobbe med så tunge arbeid nå. Men uansett her er bildene. Håper dere får et inntrykk, vanskelige lysforhold og ute regner det....

and quiltet! Its beautiful and Im very satisfied with the work. The binding is not on yet, I have an elbow that is not good. So for the moment I cannot work with heavy quilts. But anyway, here are the pictures. Hope you get an impression of the quilting, not good conditions for taking pictures and outside its raining as h....

Ny skulderveske / New messengerbag

Så har den blitt ferdig, vesken jeg skulle sy av det quiltede stoffstykket jeg viste dere for noen poster siden. Av og til har jeg litt vanskelig for å følge mønster, og det skjedde her også...... Må liksom gjøre litt på min egen måte og, men når jeg ikke er en veldig erfaren veskesyerske så kreves det litt tankevirksomhet! Men nå er den klar og jeg skal gi den bort til en skjønn jente jeg kjenner, gleder meg - håper hun liker den :o)

Ive finished the bag I was making of the quilted fabric I showed you some posts ago. Sometimes I like NOT following the pattern, make my own little twist, and so I did here aswell... As Im not a very experienced bag-sewer, I needed to use my brain and think! But now its finished and Im going to give it away to a sweet girl that I know - hope she likes it :o)

De siste ukene har det nesten føltes som om vi er kommet til våren, men så slo kulden til igjen...

The last couple of weeks it seemed like spring was near, but then suddenly the cold struck again...

Snart skal jeg få eget syrom, og gjett om jeg gleder meg :o) Så slipper jeg å ha stoff i kisten min, i poser og andre steder jeg kan få plass til det, endelig kan jeg få ha det fremme og se på alle de fine fargene !!

Soon this room will be my very own sewingroom :o) Looking forward to place all my beautiful fabrics in shelves where I can enjoy them, not keeping them in my coffin, in bags and whereever there is room for it! It will be great :o)

Idag er det morsdag, og jeg har nettopp blitt servert en deilig fiskemiddag, og nå er jentene på kjøkkenet og baker kake til besøk om en liten stund. Og siden det er morsdag kan jeg gjøre hva jeg vil :o) og da har jeg lyst å vise dere de siste blokkene til Layer Cake Quilt Along.

Ferdig med lue og hals, og de ble sannelig fine, til og med på meg :o) Men jeg tar ikke sjansen på å vise bilde av meg tilfelle dere skulle være uenig.... hehe. Så her kommer nok en flott modell (Oda) og viser frem.

My cap and cowl are finished, and can you imagine - even looks good on me :o) But I dont risk showing you a photo of me, just in case you shouldn't agree with me..... hihi. So here is another gorgeous model, Oda.

Det var ikke gratis, må vite, men det var lett å bli enig om et rimelig honorar :o) Det var nemlig settet jeg ikke synes passet meg. Er det ikke greit når alle blir fornøyd??

As you probably know, these kind of jobs are not for free, but we easily agreed on a reasonable fee :o) That was the cap and cowl that I didn't look good in. Isn't it nice when everybody is satisfied and happy??

Igår fikk jeg en pakke i posten fra en venninne, hun hadde strikket og tovet et par deilige ulltøfler til meg, med søte hjerter på. Har hatt de på meg siden jeg fikk dem, de er fantastisk gode :o)

Yesterday I got a package from a friend, she has knitted and felted a pair of lovely woolen slippers for me, with cute little hearts. I have been wearing them since, they are really really good :o)

Idag har jeg fått pakke fra min mug rug swap partner, Jessie fra Washington, med masse fint. To flotte mug rugs, en notatbok og en lebepomade. Alt med tema cupcake, noe som har resultert i at Oda står på kjøkkenet nå og baker muffins..... :o)

Today I received a package from my mug rug partner, Jessie fra Washinghton, with lots of nice things. Two lovely mug rugs, one notebook and one lipbalm. All with cupcakes as a theme, which has resulted in Oda being in the kitchen right now making cupcakes.....:o)

Tenk at enda en uke er gått, og ikke nok med det - men HELE januar er forbi også..... Jaja, sånn er det. Men de sier jo at når tiden går fort er det fordi man trives og har det kjekt, og det er jo ihvertfall en god ting :o) Har ikke gjort så mye denne uken, men to nye Layer Cake blokker er det blitt, fine begge to.

Imagine, already another Friday - and ALL of January has gone by aswell. But as they say time flies when you are enjoying yourself and having a good time - so it should be a good sign :o) I really havent done that much this week, but a couple of Layer Cake blocks are finished, nice ones!

Jeg er også på min evige jakt etter en lue jeg kan trives i og føle meg noenlunde ok i - det er sannelig ikke lett. Siste forsøk (bilder for noen poster siden) ble ikke helt som jeg hadde trodd, stod som et pølseskinn rundt hodet mitt - absolutt ikke som bildet på mønsteret ( og det har helt sikkert ikke noe med modellen å gjøre...hihi :o)), så den blir det nok en av mine søte jenter som får, sammen med halsen. Im on an evelasting search for a cap that fits me and I feel good in ( and look good in...) and thats NOT easy. My last try (pictures a couple of posts ago) did not turn out the way I wanted, was way too tight around my head. It didnt look like that at all on the picture in the pattern (of course that has nothing to do with the gorgeous model....-hihi :o)), so I guess one of my sweet girls will have it, with the cowl and all. But Im not giving up, I have found a new pattern that I like( not me in the picture...), so I have already started! To be continued.....

Søndagsaktiviteter / Activities on a Sunday

Etter et par timers cache-tur med hunden og kjæresten min på en ganske fin søndag, (til dere som ikke vet hva caching er og har lyst å vite mer, se www.geocaching.com), var det endelig tid for å sy mug rug'ene til swap'en. Jeg har kjøpt fine blå og hvite stoff, som hun ønsket seg. Jeg har igrunnen aldri sydd så mye i disse fargene før, men det blir veldig fint. Særlig likte jeg den lyse varianten.

Men den mørke ble også fin. Håper hun som får dem blir fornøyd :o)

After a couple of hours walk looking for caches with my dearest and our dog (if you dont know about caching, you can learn more at www.geocaching.com), it was finally time for some mug rug sewing for the swap. Some days ago I bought blue and white fabric, which was what my partner wanted. I have never used these colours very much, but I think they are very nice. I particularly like the light blue version, but also the darker. Hope my partner likes them :o)

Det har også blitt tid til å bake knekkebrød. Har fått oppskrift av min søster med grovt rugmel, linfrø,sesamfrø, solsikkekjerner, havre-og hvetekli - masse godt! Og de er knallgode, må bake flere ganger i uken.

I have also made crackers today. I got the recipe from my sister and they are full of all sorts of seeds and grains. They are soooooo good, and I have to make them several times a week.

Siste rest av halsen, som hører til luen i forrige post, fikk jeg også ferdig. Modellen min har fri idag, så jeg måtte nøye meg med et vanlig, kjedelig bilde..... :o)

The last of the cowl, belonging to the cap from last post, was also done today. My model has the day off, so I had to go for an ordinary, boring picture.... :o)

Smått og godt :o) / My new favourite - small projects

I det siste har det blitt litt av hvert av håndarbeide, noe strikking og noe sying - og det synes jeg er kjekt. Føler at jeg trenger litt variasjon og gjøre litt forskjellig. Har strikket endel av disse halsene, de er bare helt suverene.

Lately I have been doing a bit of this and a bit of that. Its sometimes nice to have smaller project that can be finished quicker, at just now I like to have the variation. I have been making some of these cowls, which have turned out to be a hit :o)

De kan brukes på så mange måter, feks som lue..... :o)

They can be used in many ways, as a cap perhaps... :o)

Men det er ikke alle som vil bruke dem slik, så jeg har strikket en ordentlig lue :o) Holder på å strikke hals i samme mønster. Fargene er veldig fine, rød-mørk beige-hvit, kommer ikke så godt frem her. Har også gjort noen endringer i forhold til mønsteret.

But not everyone will dress up with that sort of cap, so I have made another one, a real one :o) I have started making a cowl to match. The colours are really nice, red-dark beige-white, they dont show so well in the picture.

Mug Rug basillen har ikke helt sluppet taket ennå, sånn er det bare.... Har fått min swap-partner nå, så jeg må ut å kjøpe stoff slik at hun får det hun liker best - blått og hvitt. Disse har jeg laget til en venninne i Oslo.

The Mug Rug bug is still haunting me... I have got the details about my swap-partner, so I have to go and buy some fabrics so I can make her what she really likes - blue and white. The ones in the picture I have made for a friend of mine.

For noen dager siden fikk jeg en spennende bok i posten. Nå skal jeg lære meg å sy bokstaver uten å applikere. Det gleder jeg meg til, blir sikkert mye prøving og feiling, men jeg skal nok klare det. Synes det er ganske stilig, liker stilen.

Some days ago I got a very exciting book. Im going to learn how to piece letters! Looking forward to that, I really like the style.

Litt nytt / Something new

Har bestemt meg for at dette året skal jeg lage litt mer mindre ting, og prøve nye ting. Det er gøy! Har laget disse mug rug'ene.

I have decided that this year Im going to make more of the 'small' stuff, like runners, tablecloths, wallhangings etc. And Im going to try and learn new techniques. Fun stuff :o) I have made these mug rugs.

Jeg har et gammelt trau, som jeg har arvet av mine besteforeldre, jeg synes det er veldig fint og det står i stuen vår. Men det har manglet en liten brikke som passer. Det har jeg begynt å lage idag, må sy rundt applikasjonene og quilte, så er den ferdig. ( Fargene på bildet er dessverre ikke gode).

I have an old tray that I inherited from my grandparents. I love it and have it in our livingroom. It nas been in my thoughts to make a little quilt for it. And today I have started, to finish it I have to sew around the applications and quilt it. (Unfortunately the colours on the picture are not good).

Det er helt utrolig, men jeg er faktisk ferdig med Star Crazy quilten! Har jobbet med den de siste dagene, bordene tok lengre tid enn jeg trodde. Trekant-bordene spesielt..... Det har vært en spennende BOM å være med på, men jeg må jo innrømme at det noen ganger har buttet litt imot. Da har det vært helt supert å ha alle med-quilterne i gruppen/bloggen 'Star Crazy Log', de har vært en motivasjon og har gitt det lille puffet bak som var nødvendig noen ganger :o) Teppet måler ca 2,15 x 2,15, så det er ganske stort. Da er det greit å ha to søte jenter som hjelper med fotoshoot!

I almost dont believe it, but I have finished the Star Crazy quilt! I have been working with the borders for tha last few days, but it took a bit longer than I thought. Especially the HST-borders..... It has been an fun BOM to make, but I have to admit that sometimes I had some trouble with my motivation. So I have to thank all of my co-quilters in the group/blog 'Star Crazy Log', they have really given me the kick in the a... that I needed, and I kind of thought that I wouldn't disappoint them by dropping out - as if they would care :o) The quilt is rather big ( a least for me it is...), approx 85 inches square. So I appreciated the help from my two sweet girls at the photoshoot!

Dette er den største quilten jeg har laget og har jobbet med den et år nå. Jeg er superfornøyd og stolt. og synes at den fortjener å bli quiltet av en som er flinkere enn meg....

Er det noen av dere som har et forslag til/erfaring med en her i Norge som jeg kan sende det til? Blir veldig glad for innspill :o)

This is definitely the largest quilt I have made, and I have been working with it for a year now. And Im very satisfied and proud with the result. I think it deserves to be quiltet by someone who has way more experience than me.... I have a pretty good idea of a couple in the US I could have used, but are a bit more uncertain about someone in Norway (isn't that odd????). So I need some help from my norwegian readers!

Star Crazy BOM

Godt nyttår til alle som titter innom :o)

Happy new year to everybody who pops by :o)

Idag har jeg begynt å sy sammen Star Crazy blokkene! Men først sydde jeg de siste blokkene fra desember.

Today I have started the assembling of the Star Crazy blocks. But first of all I had to make the last blocks from December.

Og så ryddet jeg sengen og la utover alle senter-blokkene, skrekk og gru - vet dere hva jeg oppdaget da??? Av en eller annen grunn har jeg glemt å lage en Irish Chain blokk.... Ser dere godt etter ser dere en ledig plass på toppen.

I made room on our bed and placed the blocks as they should be, oh noooo - guess what I saw??? For some reason I have forgotten to make one Irish Chain block.... If you look carefully tou can see the open space a the top.

Så da var det ikke annet å gjøre enn å klippe stoffer og sy en blokk til. Gikk litt ekstra tid, men det gjorde ikke så mye. Noen timer senere var resultatet klart, blokkene var sydd sammen! Å gu, kor fint det blir :o) Gleder meg til å fortsette imorgen!!

So, had no choice, I had to find some fabrics, cut them and make another block. But it didn't take too long and a couple of hours later the result was ready! And its gorgeous, if I may say so... :o) I cant wait till tomorrow to continue!!

Pittelitt juleblogging / A little bit of x-mas blogging

Det er mange som er ferdig med julen når juledagene er over, men hos meg er det jul fremdeles. Nettopp ferdig med et kjempekos julebesøk med venner, store og små. Det har vi hatt endel år nå, så det er savnet når det av ulike grunne ikke kan bli noe av - som ifjor da vi var i Trondheim. Det er så koselig å treffes med mann og barn, ikke så ofte vi gjør det dessverre. Dette er en tradisjon som jeg vil holde på så lenge jeg kan :o) Har ikke blitt så mye sying disse dagene, men jeg kan jo vise noe av julepresangene som ble gitt bort.

A lot of people say x-mas is over when the x-mas days are over, but in my mind x-mas is still here :o) I just finished a party with friends w/family. This is a tradition and is missed when for some reason it has to be cancelled - like last year when we were in Trondheim. Not much sewing these days, but I can show you some of the x-mas present I made.

Svigerinnen min i Trondheim fikk denne løperen. Den var egentlig ment for mamma, men da hun døde for noen år siden har den bare blitt liggende. Nå ble den endelig ferdig, og jeg vet at Elinor setter stor pris på den :o)

My SIL got this runner. Originally it was meant for my mum, but after she died a couple of years ago, I just wasn't inspired to finish it - until now. I know Elinor appreciates it :o)

I have to show you this purse I made, I just love the fabric - don't you agree? I think I will keep this for myself, Im very fond of roses!

I går sydde jeg ferdig november blokkene til Star Crazy. Er det ikke merkelig at alt sånt blir utsatt til siste liten?? I dag fikk vi instrukser for de siste 6 blokkene og sammensyingen av teppet. Jeg gleder meg til å se det ferdig. Men det spørs vel hvor mye som blir gjort nå før jul, er litt andre ting som står først i køen....

Yesterday I fininshed the November blocks. Isnt it funny how we tend to do things in the last minute, at least I do..... Today we got the instructions for the last 6 blocks and how to put it together. I cant wait to see it finished! But Im not sure how much I will be able to do before x-mas, some other things are first in line :o)

Det er forresten en ting jeg pleier å gjøre stort sett med en gang, det er å sy den nye blokken på Layer Cake QA når vi får mønsteret, det er så spennende å se hvordan de blir seende ut, og spesielt nå når jeg syr to versjoner. Fikk et nytt mønster igår, og her er blokkene. Er ganske fornøyd med begge to, men det er noen småting på den nederste blokken som plager meg litt.....

Actually there are one thing I usually do quite fast, and thats making the new blocks for Layer Cake QA when we get the instructions. Its so exciting to see how the blocks turn out, especially now when I make two versions. We got the pattern yesterday and here are the two blocks. Im quite pleased with the result, but there are some small things that annoys me on the lower block.....

og har selvfølgelig prøvd meg på mug rugs :o) Det er mange som lager slike for tiden og det er utrolig masse gøyt og fint å se - tid for å bruke fantasien!! Se fex her hos Lekaquilt eller hos Madame Samm. Jeg har laget et par stykker, og det frister til mer - de blir jo ferdig superkjapt, og det er gøy :o) (Ser at Anne Holts siste krim får litt gratisreklame, men det gjør ingenting for den er spennende!!)

and of course I had to try Mug Rugs :o) There are many that are making them at the moment and its a lot of nice and fun results to see - time for your imagination to bloom!! Just look at LekaQuilt or Madame Samm. I have made a couple of them and Im going to make more - its fast and fun :o)

Jeg viste vel aldri den helt ferdige puten som Oda og jeg laget, her er den - ble ganske fin :o) Oda var ihvertfall fornøyd, og det er det viktigste!

I never showed the finished pillow that Oda and I made, here it is - I think its nice :o) Oda was also satisfied, and that is whats most important!

på at mottakeren av dette teppet ikke finner på å lese bloggen min, har ikke gjort det før ihvertfall...... Niesen min ønsket seg et teppe til den nye leiligheten deres, og valgte stoff, men ellers har jeg hatt frie tøyler :o) Blir nok en julepresang. Må bare få quiltet det, hun liker mye quilting så jeg får se hva jeg finner på. Cora ligger på yndlingsplassen sin, i vinduskarmen, hvor hun har utsikt utover hele Bergensdalen og helt til Askøy - full kontroll !!!

My niece wanted a quilt for their new appartement, chose what fabrics to be used and the rest was up to me :o) Hope they will be happy when they get it for x-mas. I just have to quilt it. In the background Cora is in her favourite place, where she has full controll of what is happening outside !!

Så var og ventetiden på blokk nr 2 på LCQA over, og den ble slik, i to varianter. På den øverste har jeg snudd de mørke stoffene inn mot midten for de andre ble rett og slett for lik, men jeg tror ikke det gjør noe.

And finally the waiting for block no 2 in LCQA is over. This is how they look. I have changed the block on the top a bit, the dark colours are in the middle, because the other were too similar. But I dont think it matters.

SIste ukers arbeid / Last weeks work

Star Crazy quilten nærmer seg slutten. Jeg har vært litt på etterskudd den siste tiden, men nå har jeg fått gjort ferdig september og oktober blokkene. Neste måned blir vi ferdig med alle blokkene og kan begynne å sy dem sammen, det blir spennende! Heldigvis har jeg kuttet ferdig alle bordene som skal brukes :o)

The Star Crazy quilt is almost finished. I have been a bit behind the last months, but Im starting to catch up again :o) I have made September and October blocks. Next month all blocks will be finished and I can start putting them together, wow!!! Looking firward to that. Fortunately I was really smart and cut all the borders in January, so they are ready to be used!

Har også strikket en hals, som jeg er veldig fornøyd med. Fikk ideen hos Quiltefia. Har allerede begynt på nr 2, Oda ville også ha :o) Og kanskje noen får til jul.....

I have made a cowl, and Im very pleased with it. I got the idea at Quiltefia. I have already started the second one, because my daughter Oda wanted one aswell :o) And maybe someone will get one for X-mas.....

Layer Cake Quilt Along

I vår var jeg med på Jelly Roll Quilt Along hos Moose on the Porch Quilts, og synes det var kjempeartig, og quilten ble fin også :o) Så da Konda annonserte at hun skulle arrangerer en Layer Cake Quilt Along, var jeg ikke sen om å melde meg på! Og endelig igår fikk vi mønsteret på den første blokken, og idag har jeg sydd, alltid like spennende hvordan blokkene blir seende ut med stoffene jeg bruker. Her har jeg brukt Cherish Nature fra Moda.

This spring I followed Jelly Roll Quilt Along hosted by Moose on the Porch Quilts, and I enjoyed it a lot, og the quilt turned out nice aswell :o) So when Konda announced that she was going to host a Layer Cake Quilt Along, I promptly decided to participate! And yesterday we got the pattern for the first block, and today I have started sewing. Its always exciting to see how the blocks turns out with the fabrics I choose. This time Im using Cherish Nature from Moda.

Jeg hadde vanskeligheter med å bestemme meg for hvilken Layer Cake jeg skulle bruke, det stod mellom to stykker. Jeg trodde jeg hadde klart å velge, men midt oppi kutting og sying idag bestemte jeg meg for å lage to versjoner av quilten, den andre med Awesome fra Moda. Jeg tror ikke det vil ta så mye mer tid.

I had big trouble deciding which Layer Cake to choose, finally I had two options. I thought I had made up my mind, but as I was cutting and sewing I decided to make two quilts. The other one with Awesome from Moda. I really dont think it will take much more time.

Her er min bestevenn utkledt som vakthund, er hun ikke søt?

Blogger's Quilt Festival - Fall 2010

For fjerde gang arrangerer Amy hos Amy's Creative Side 'Blogger's Quilt Festival'. Denne gangen har jeg bestemt meg for å være med.

For the fourth time Amy at Amy's Creative Side is hosting 'Blogger's Quilt Festival'. This time I have decided to participate.

Teppet jeg vil delta med er et jeg nettopp er ferdig med, og det er til yngste datteren min. For et par år siden så hun teppet i et quiltebok jeg har som heter 'Surprisingly Simple Quilts', og hun ble helt forelsket i fargene, hjertene og blomstene. Og jeg sa selvfølgelig ja - det var jo surprisingly simple :o)

The quilt I want to show you is one that I recently finished for my youngest daughter. A couple of years ago she found it in a quiltbook I have called 'Surprisingly Simple Quilts', and she totally fell in love with the colours, the hearts and the flowers. And, of course, I said yes - after all it was surprisingly simple :o)

Og det var jo ikke spesielt vanskelig heller, Toppen ble ganske snart ferdig. Men broderingen på hjertene var visst ikke helt min ting den gangen, det ble utsatt og utsatt.....

And that was true, it was not very difficult, the top came together fairly quick. But the embroideries on the hearts were not my favourite thing to do, it was constantly postponed......

For hvert teppe jeg begynte på uten å gjøre hennes ferdig, lurte Oda mer og mer på hvorfor jeg ikke kunne gjøre hennes ferdig. Så tilslutt var min samvittighet så svart at jeg bare måtte ta meg i nakken og gjøre det ferdig. Og når jeg begynte så var det jo ganske kjekt likevel :o)

Each time I started a new quilt, Oda wondered more and more why I didn't finish hers. My conscience got worse as time went by, so at last I had to pull myself together and make an effort. And when I started it wasn't so bad after all :o)

Idag har jeg endelig sydd ferdig toppen til teppet som yngstejenten min skal få :o) Gjett om både hun og jeg er glad for det! Hun har ikke vært helt fornøyd når jeg har begynt på andre ting før jeg har gjort ferdig hennes - og det kan jeg forstå. Har holdt på med det en stund. Så nå skal jeg finne frem noen stoff og lage bakstykket med en gang......

Today I finally finished the top for my youngest girl :o) And boy, are we happy! She has not been especially pleased when Ive started new quilts before I finished hers - and I understand that quite well. I started this a long time ago. Im going to find some fabrics and make the back at once.....

Dette er bare så gøy! Selvom det ikke har blitt så mye øving de siste ukene, så føler jeg at dette begynner jeg å få taket på. På noen mønster da..... Og jeg har funnet ut at det trenger ikke være perfekt for å bli fint, litt skjeve linjer og avstander som ikke er helt lik, sirkler som ikke er helt rund - det er bare sjarmerende :o)

This is sooo much fun. even if I havent been able to practise much the last few week, I feel Im getting into this and gettting the hang of it. Well, at least for some patterns... And it doesnt have to be perfect to look good, lines that are not straight, circles that are not perfectly round, lines that not hit excactly where it should - it all makes it more charming :o)

Jeg hadde noen biter tilovers fra et teppe, og de har jeg laget grytekluter av (på bildene er ikke lukkekanten kommet på). Synes det er litt kjekkere å øve på noe som kan brukes.

I had some leftover blocks, and I have made potholders of them. Its more fun to practise if Im making something small and useful :o)

Jeg ligger 2 mnd på etterskudd med Star Crazy-blokkene, så idag må jeg se om ikke jeg kan få begynt å kutte stoffene. Tenk at jeg snart er ferdig med teppet, bare 2 mnd igjen - det er helt utrolig! Gleder meg til å begynne å sy sammen alle blokkene :o)

Im 2 months behind on my Star Crazy-blocks, so I will try to start cutting the fabrics today. I cant believe the quilt is almost finished, only 2 months left - unbelievable! Looking forward to start putting the blocks together :o)

men jeg hadde lyst å si hei likevel, jeg, siden det er en stund siden... :o) Jeg har hatt et ufrivillig (eller det er det vel alltid...) langt sykehusopphold. Det som skulle være et enkelt inngrep og 2 dagers innleggelse, ble til 2 operasjoner på 2 dager og 1 1/2 uke i sykesengen. Nå er jeg heldigvis kommet hjem og er på bedringens vei, men det er et stykke å gå før godformen er tilbake. Men da gjelder det å ordne seg med litt sytøy som kan holde meg med selskap etterhvert på sofaen. Skal få tegnet av disse.

but I wanted to say hi anyway, been so long... :o) I've had an unexpectedly long stay at the hospital. One simple surgery, became 2 operations in 2 days and 1 1/2 week in the hospital. But now Im home again, recovering, but it will be a week or two until Im back in business. In the meantime I have arranged for some stitcheries to keep me company on the couch :o)

To nye toalettvekser / New toiletbags

Da jeg gikk på kurs for noen uker siden laget vi en fin toalettveske. Jeg hadde lyst å lage et par for å se om jeg husket hvordan vi gjorde det. Eller kanskje det var mest fordi lillejenten (som er 13....) ønsket seg en sånn, og hadde for lenge siden valgt seg ut hvilke border hun skulle ha :o) Samtidig hadde jeg noen rester fra vesken jeg laget forrige uke, som passet ypperlig til mønsteret, og da kunne jeg også øve litt på frihåndsquilting.

A couple of weeks ago, I attended a class where we made a toiletbag. My youngest one wanted one like this, and long time ago she picked the borders :o) I also had some leftovers from the bag I made last week that was perfect for the pattern. So it was time to see if I remeberred how to make them. And I could practise my freemotion quilting.

Selvom quiltingen er laaaangt fra perfekt, så liker jeg egentlig den 'stilen' og all uregelmessigheten. / Even if the quilting is far from perfect, I kind of like the 'style' and the wonkiness.

Nå må jeg gjøre meg klar til å gå på fotballkamp, Brann - Rosenborg! Lurer på hvem av oss som vinner idag, jeg fra Bergen eller min kjære fra Trondheim..... Er redd jeg kanskje trekker det korteste strået :o)

'Gaver på vandring' og litt til / 'Gifts on tour' and a bit more

Igår kom det en pakke til meg i postkassen. Dette var 'Gaver på vandring' fra Bestemor Drillo, kjempekoselig.Jeg fikk disse fordi jeg var en av de 3 første som la inn en hilsen hos henne da hun fikk sin gave. Det var et flott skilt, to søte griser og en pose med mokkabønner. Den led samme skjebne som Twist-posen på sykebesøk :o) Det var så fristende og vi spiste endel, før jeg kom på at jeg måtte jo ta bilde... SÅ hvis det er noen som har lyst på en liten gave fra meg, er det bare å legge igjen en hilsen. De 3 første er de heldige (men ingen hinder for å legge igjen en kommentar selvom du er nr 4 - blir alltid glad for det :o))

Yesterday I got something in the mailbox. This was present from Bestemor Drillo. This is a game called 'Gifts on tour' ( the best translation I can come up with). I got this sweet gift because I was one of the 3 first when she posted about her gift. So if you want a little present from me, just leave a comment. The 3 first are the lucky ones ( but of course I'll be happy for your greetings even if you are no 4 :o))

Så har jeg laget nok en veske. Jeg brukte noe av stoffene jeg kjøpte tidligere i uken. Denne vesken var ikke vanskelig å sy. Det eneste jeg lurte litt på var bunnen, for jeg har ikke laget den på denne måten før. Men jeg laget en liten test, fulgte mønsteret nøye og bunnen ble kjempefin. Nok en veske jeg er fornøyd med og kommer til å bruke masse, den rommer endel.

I have made another bag, cant seem to get enough of them these days :o) I used some of the fabrics I bought earlier this week. It was quite easy to make, The only thing that made me wonder a bit was the bottom, I have never made it like this before. So I did a test following the pattern, and it turned out to be quite nice. Im really satisfied with this aswell, and will use it a lot.

Free Motion Quilt Along (FMQA) er i full gang, og det er også jeg :o) Synes det er grådig gøy, og føler fremdeles at jeg kan mestre dette med litt øvelse. Eller - ok, endel øvelse da. Men hva gjør det når det er så artig! Som dere ser så er jeg ingen mester ennå :o)

FMQA has started, and so have I. I really enjoy this and still feel I can be good at it with some practise. Ok, maybe a lot of practise :o) But I dont care because I like doing it a lot! As you can see I am no expert yet, but improving :o)

En glad opplevelse / A happy experience

Idag skulle jeg til byen egentlig bare for å hente noen togbilletter. Men jernbanen er jo rett i nærheten av en av mine favorittbutikker i byen, Quiltehuset, og jeg måtte selvfølgelig en tur innom... Og gjett, der hadde de salg, 50 % på mange stoff, og jeg lot meg selvfølgelig friste :o) Mange lekre stoff ble med meg hjem.

I was going downtown today to pick up some traintickets. One of my favourite shops i town, Quiltehuset, are close to the station, and of course I had to go.... And guess what, they had a big sale, 50% off, and I couldnt resist :o) I brought home a lot of gorgeous fabrics.

Når jeg stod og betalte kom det en ung, hyggelig dame bort til meg og spurte om jeg drev med quilting. Da jeg sa ja, åpnet hun sekken sin og tok frem mange jelly rolls og blader. Hun var fra Seattle på ferie i Norge, og hadde med seg dette for å gi bort! Det er jo helt utrolig, for en generøsitet. Jeg valgte meg et blad og en rull med flotte batikkstoff. Dette var definitivt dagens glade opplevelse :o)

When I was paying, a young very nice lady came over and asked me if I was quilting. When I confirmed, she opened her bag and showed me a lot of different jelly rolls and magazines. She was from Seattle, on vacation in Norway, and brought this to give away! Can you believe, so generous. I chose a magazine and roll of lovely batics. Definately the happy experience of the day :o)

I have made another bag, I really love making them!

Jeg begynte å sy en ny veske av noen av stoffene jeg har kjøpt idag. Klar til quilting imorgen. Veldig dårlig lys på bildet, men det kommer nytt bilde av vesken når den er ferdig.

I have started a new bag using some of the fabrics I bought today, ready for quilting tomorrow. I know its a bad picture, but I will show you another when the bag is finished.

Jeg har kuttet ferdig stoffene til teppet jeg skal lage. Var veldig spent på hvordan en blokk ville se ut, så jeg måtte prøve å sy en, synes den ble veldig fin. Det blir mange ulike stoffkombinasjoner på blokkene.

I finished cutting the fabrics for the quilt Im making. I was very anxious to see how a block would turn out, so I had to make one, and I liked it. The blocks will have different combinations of fabrics.

Nå har vi startet Free Motion Quilt Along, og det er utrolig gøy! Jeg har laget ferdig en enkel topp, som vi skal quilte, og mange prøvelapper. Har prøvd meg denne uken, og har virkelig bygget opp en tro på at dette skal jeg klare! Ikke at jeg er så flink ennå og det blir så fint, men hun har begynt helt fra scratch slik at det er lett å følge med utviklingen. The Free Motion Quilt Along has started, and it is lots of fun! I have made a simple top that we are giong to quilt, and several practice sandwiches. I have tried to do some quilting every day this week and I have really built up a belief that I will manage this! Not that I am clever or my work looks very nice, but she has started all from scratch, so its very simple to follow. Dette blir en kort post for å fortelle hvem som ble vinneren. Fredagshilsen og litt av ukens arbeid / Greetings on a Friday evening and some of this weeks work

Igår var jeg på opplæringskurs på symaskinen, som jeg kjøpte for et halvt års tid siden. Skulle egentlig vært i vår, men da kunne jeg ikke. Jeg har jo funnet ut mye selv, men det er alltid kjekt å treffe mennesker med samme interesse :o) Og så laget vi en fin liten toalettveske. Den fikk min kjære for han var så snill å kjøre og hente meg:o)

Yesterday I was at a training-course for my 'new' sewing-machine. I was supposed to have this earlier, so now I had already learned a lot by myself. But it is always nice to meet people which are interested in the same as I am ( that didnt sound very good....). And we made a cute little bag, which I gave to my dearest who was so kind to bring and pick me up again :o)

For første gang var jeg så heldig at jeg vant en giveaway :o) Idag fikk jeg en kjempefin sminkepung, og et fint mobilsmykke fra Nickels Pickels fra Tyskland. Hun har en artig blogg, ta dere en tur her.

Vesken ble ferdig i rekordfart, det var så spennende. Har sydd og sydd idag til tonene fra A-ha's øvinger på Brann Stadion. De skal ha avskjedskonsert der nå ikveld, og vi bor rett ovenfor. Men her er vidunderet, med lommer på innsiden og utsiden med og uten glidelås.... :o)

My bag was finished today, can you imagine! I have been sewing and sewing to the sound of A-ha ( the world-famous band from Norway, ex 'Take on me'....) practising at the football stadium very near us. The are having a farewell concert there tonight. Well, my bag was finished, pockets inside and outside, with and without zippers - Im very satisfied..... :o)

Jelly Roll Quilt Along

Idag har jeg fått sydd ferdig toppen til JR-quilten, og den ble akkurat så fin som jeg hadde håpet :o) Størrelsen ble tilslutt 145 x 180 cm. Nå er det bare å finne ut hvordan jeg skal quilte den, er jo ikke så flink med sånn frihåndsquilting.... Kanskje jeg skal vente til jeg Free Motion Quilt Along er ferdig, da er jeg forhåpentligvis blitt flinkere :o)

Today I have finished the JR quilt top, and it turned out just as nice as I was hoping :o) The top is 145 x 180 cm. Now Im wondering how to quilt it, not being a free motion expert.... So maybe I will wait until the Free Motion Quilt Along have finished, hopefully my skills have improved :o)

Free Motion Quilt ALong

Et lite tips om en litt annen quilt along, hvor quiltingen er i fokus! Her er det virkelig mulighet til å få masse tips og lære seg frihåndsquilting. Dere finner den på 'A few scraps'. Vi skal lage en helt enkel topp (striper), som skal quiltes med forskjellige mønstre. Jeg synes det høres spennende ut og hiver meg på for å lære mer!

If you havent heard already, 'A few scraps' is hosting a quilt along where the focus is on the quilting and not making a gorgeous top. A simple top are going to be quilted with various patterns. This is a great opportunity get a lot of tips and learn how to free motion quilt. I think this sounds very exciting and will join to learn more!

Har utvidet mitt repetoar / My repetoar is broadened

Skulle egentlig gjøre ferdig toppen på Jelly Roll-quilten i dag, men slik gikk det ikke. I stedet har jeg utvidet mitt veske-repetoar, som fra før av ikke var så altfor stort :o) Fikk mye positiv tilbakemelding på nettet jeg laget for en stund siden, og da øker jo lysten til å prøve igjen! Litt annerledes denne gangen.

I was supposed to finish the Jelly Roll top today, but that was not what happened. Instead I have broadened my bag-repetoar, which was not too hard because I have only made one before :o) I got a lot of positive feedback on the bag I made a while ago, and I really wanted to try again. A bit different this time.

Ikke så veldig avansert, men helforet, med lommer og knapp. Og jeg er veldig fornøyd! Mønsteret kan dere finne her.

Not very advanced, but with lining, pockets and button. And Im very pleased! You can find the pattern here.

Mens jeg holdt på med vesken, kom yngstejenten på 13 og sa hun hadde lyst å lage et putetrekk. Hun hadde tegnet og målt og funnet frem stoffer. Så alt var klart til kutting og sying, og hun trengte litt hjelp. Og så klart hun fikk det, jeg synes det er kjempegøy at hun viser interesse for å sy - det gleder mitt hjerte :o) Her er den flotte puten, designet av Oda!

While I was working on my bag, my youngest daughter (13) came and asked me if I could help her. She wanted to make a pillowcase. She had made the pattern, measured and found some fabrics she wanted to use. I was more than willing to help, her interest in sewing warms my heart :o) And this is the pillow, design: Oda! De siste dagene har jeg jobbet hardt for å bi ferdig med blokkene til Jelly Roll-quilten, og det har jeg klart! Men ikke uten hinder, må vite :o) Var nesten ferdig med en av blokkene når jeg oppdaget at instruksene var feil. Så da var det bare å ta opp igjen og kutte på nytt - hadde jeg bare fulgt tegningene istedet. Eller lest innlegget etter.... Men sånn er det, den ble ferdig tilslutt. Her er de siste blokkene.

The last few days I have been working hard to finish the last blocks of the Jelly QRoll quilt - and I made it! With some trouble of course... I almost finished one of the blocks until I realised that the instructions were wrong, if I only had followed the figures..... Hvorfor er jeg alltid for sen?? / Why am I always late??

Idag har jeg, endelig, sydd sammen juli-blokkene til Star Crazy-quilten. De har vært ferdig kuttet og innerste delen sydd, men siste biten var vanskelig å få unna.... Jeg har vel lagt en måned på etterskudd nesten hele tiden, så jeg blir vel ferdig i januar :o) Men som alltid har jeg planer om å få ferdig blokkene for august før august er ferdig.....

Today, finally, I managed to concentrate my mind on sewing the July blocks. I did cut them and fininshed the inner squares some time ago, but then I went into pause-mode, I think. If I carry on like this I will finish the quilt in January and not December :o) But as always I plan to do the blocks for August before August is gone....

Jeg gjorde en liten vri denne gangen, en veldig liten en - hihi :o) I 9'er blokkene, brukte jeg forskjellige farger som jeg hadde liggende fra tidligere måneder. Synes ikke det gjorde noe.

I did a little twist this time, a very little one - hihi... :o) In 2 of the 9-patches I have used different coloured fabrics, leftovers from earlier months. I dont think it matters, actually its quite nice.

Så ligger jeg også etter med Jelly Roll quilten, den skulle egentlig vært ferdig - akk, den ferien... Jeg har 4 blokker igjen før jeg kan begynne å sy den sammen, men de er ganske fort å sy. Gleder meg til den er ferdig, det har vært kjempegøy å være med! (Obs - bildet ble feil vei )

And Im also behind with my Jelly Roll quilt, it should have been finished by now. I still have 4 blocks to make, but they are quite fast. I really look forward to see it finished, it has been really fun to participate!
